Challenge

IFPRI first came to Vimeo after experiencing spotty streaming with another provider during one of their biggest live events. “There’s a lot on the line with an institution like ours, where we are so reliant on our ability to connect with our audience,” says Jamed Falik, Visual Design Team Lead. “You can imagine how stressful that was.”

After producing dozens of successful live events, Jamed’s team wanted to further innovate how they share research with partners and donors with video. “When we heard about Vimeo Interactive, it blew our minds a bit about what we could do,” he says. Initially, this idea was not met with the same enthusiasm from their colleagues. In fact, some were (understandably) reluctant.

“With the complexities of our content, video can be challenging,” says Jamed. “Researchers may not always be comfortable distilling nuanced findings and analysis into brief sound bites.”


Solution

Despite the initial hesitancy, Jamed and his team continued advocating for interactive as a viable and valuable medium to push IFPRI’s mission. “Initially people didn’t understand how interactive could apply to IFPRI’s research, and whether it would speak to our audience,” he says.

Working with their dedicated Vimeo team, they produced a sample interactive video to show how it can bring viewers deeper into the research in an engaging way.

Then, it clicked.

“Showing a tangible product really resonated. That was the tipping point,” says Jamed. “Leadership saw the value, which positioned us to brainstorm specific reports we can amplify through video. We’re getting to a level of comfort and trust where they know video won’t diminish their work.”

 “The value of Vimeo Interactive is that you can do it all,” he adds. “If a researcher wants to share more information, we can layer in additional links or text in a way that’s slick and interesting.”


Outcome

Now, IFPRI is bringing its annual Global Food Policy Report to life with interactive. “Our Director General will introduce it, and we branch out to different chapters to get a deeper sense of the report’s key findings,” says Jamed.

All in all, partnering with Vimeo helps IFPRI deliver on a sophisticated video strategy that’s smooth, efficient, and ever-growing. “It's been truly amazing to see this evolution in functionality, features, and services at Vimeo — and we've stayed lockstep together.”
