Challenge

Like many companies, Ivanti didn’t have a robust video strategy until a few years ago. “When I started, there was no in-house video production, other than some boxes in a closet and an old camera,” says Rob Gilchrist, Director of Video Production & Strategy at Ivanti. With years of experience at production houses and agencies, Rob was tasked with building Ivanti’s video strategy from scratch — and he knew without a doubt Vimeo would be its foundation for hosting and cataloging. Seven years later, Vimeo continues to support Ivanti’s growth while remaining the single source of truth for video content throughout.

“From day one, the first platform we used was Vimeo,” says Rob. “I’ve been using Vimeo since the early days, when there were only a few artists uploading their videos there. After all those years of great experiences, there was no way I was going to use another hosting platform.”

As they began to develop their video strategy, guided by Ivanti’s tagline of “Making the Everywhere Workplace Possible,” Rob and his team knew they could be doing more to keep their growing number of employees engaged with video — while living up to their own standards of security.

“Compared to other platforms, Vimeo has so many different tools and features, and it’s all in one place. You don’t have to have multiple different tools and platforms.”

Solution

Two guiding tenets led Ivanti to expand into Vimeo Enterprise: security and user experience.

With employees in multiple time zones, SSO ensures employees can securely access content at any time. “Before SSO, any video could technically be scraped off our intranet, even though it required a login,” according to Rob. “Vimeo Enterprise helps us lock the content down.” And for user experience? Vimeo’s custom player means viewers can focus on the content. “If you’re watching a beautiful video in a horrible UI, it distracts from the content,” he says. “Vimeo allows us to make custom changes to create our own sleek, on-brand viewing experience.”

Plus, robust user permissions means any employee can join Vimeo to work on team video initiatives. “I can add them as contributors or admins, change settings, or even use Vimeo Record,” says Rob. “It’s so simple, and it takes a lot of work off our plate because they can get up to speed quickly on how things work.”

And getting global employees up to speed is paramount for a business operating in over 20 countries worldwide. While Ivanti has been making use of Vimeo’s AI-powered closed captions into multiple languages for some time, Rob is excited to experiment with Vimeo's AI translation tools for team training opportunities. With 32 offices around the world, being able to seamlessly translate videos within the platform comes as a massive advantage. “It's a huge time-saver.”

In general, Vimeo’s AI tools have played an integral role in streamlining Ivanti’s workflow. Features like suggested titles, descriptions, meta-tagging, and auto-generated chapters give Ivanti a head start on content publishing, with AI-powered video cutdowns particularly revolutionizing the teams editing workflow. “It allows us to get from rough-cut to final distribution deliverable in a fraction of the time... In the past, we would edit videos using another software platform, typically Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve, and then upload the video to Vimeo for review, and then again make edits within the other software. Now we're able to just do that all within Vimeo and don't have to reupload and replace.” In fact, Rob and his team have reduced their production time by 80% after incorporating AI tools, and he specifically calls out highlight reels as a massive plus.

Outcome

With support from his Creative Director and CMO, Rob and his team have been scaling a company-wide video strategy as a lean team. “Video is used everywhere, for everything,” says Rob, noting that Ivanti uses video across internal comms, executive comms, demos, customer testimonials, and how-to videos.

“It’s been cool to see how Vimeo has grown with us over the years,” says Rob. “The support and product improvements from Vimeo make us look good. It feels like we’re both heading the same direction.”

That direction, Rob notes, is forward as they continue to streamline their workflow and move more quickly and with agility thanks to Vimeo AI tools.

"Vimeo is a great repository for our content, and I like that it's made the jump to a high-end video solution. It's designed well aesthetically, and it works well logistically."
